Research Interests:
Our ability to recognize other people and their actions is critical for us in our daily lives. The focus of my research is the perception (and production) of human motion, i.e., motor cognition. As a cognitive scientist, my research addresses the relationship between perception, categorization and language. How can we talk about what we see? How can we talk about what others are doing, and what qualities do different actions have such that they cause us to see them as being similar or different? To what extent does language reflect and depend on the way our bodies can move and the way different cultures talk about human actions? How is information about human action/movement processed in the brain?
